about

Politics from Rotterdam have labelled themselves post-pop.

While officially just playing "songs", Politics crafts a diverse compendium of pop music that can go any which way. They break through the calibrated grid with their own sound, unexpected twists, and lyrics that surprise and surpass. Add splashes of poppiness and bluegrass harmonies and you're getting close.

Fans and reviewers have compared them to all kinds of bands and artists ranging from Spoon to The Velvet Underground and Giant Sand. One reviewer said it best when he wrote: "Politics plays an impossible combination of broken rock like Pavement and stadium rock like U2, while managing to still sound like Politics: a good portion of silliness without neglecting the fair dose of deep shit”.

"Love & Molasses" is Politics' second full-length album and was released in October 2010. It is the follow-up to their unanimously well-received 2007 debut “Hands Off My Riot”. "Love & Molasses" was again recorded with producer and engineer Remko Schouten at the helm (Pavement, Mono, Coparck, Caesar).

While remaining songsmiths at heart this new album sees Politics explore an edgier, more experimental side of pop adding more crunch to their sparkle.

Their 2007 debut CD "Hands Off My Riot" got them a Local Hero gig at Paradiso, a spot as "Ondertopper" in Oor, a nod as "one of the most exciting Benelux bands of the moment" from KindaMuzik, and the distinction "best kept secret of Rotterdam" from 3voor12.

Both records are distributed in Europe by Sonic Rendezvous and are available for sale at record stores and online. Both ere also available for download from iTunes.

Politics have played about 80 shows including gigs at Melkweg (main), Paradiso (upstairs), Paard van Troje, Patronaat, Lantaren/Venster and Bibelot and has shared the stage with bands like Moss, Balthazar, Alamo Race Track, Face Tomrrow, Bettie Serveert and The Madd. Politics have also played one Subbacultcha, one Motorschiff Stubnitz, one Tiny Music, and three Live in your Living Rooms.
